Paul Mayhew Archer

When comedy writer Paul Mayhew-Archer (“The Vicar of Dibley”) was diagnosed with Parkinson’s he refused to take his serious illness seriously. Instead he started doing jokes about it with appearances at The Royal Albert Hall and the Comedy Store.

In 2015 he wrote and presented the award-winning BBC One Documentary, “Parkinson’s: The Funny Side” and followed that with a one-man show “Incurable Optimist” which enjoyed a sell-out month at the Edinburgh fringe and a national tour. Now in a special charity performance Paul brings his original show to Newbury with new material about what has happened since.

"Very funny and moving too." Richard Curtis

“Brave...and funny.” Ian Hislop

“Paul isn’t just one of the country’s funniest writers. It turns out he’s also a brilliant performer.” Josh Widdicombe

“So funny... and true in the way only comedy can express.” Rory Bremner
