Young Onset Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson’s is a combination of a lack of dopamine and a build-up of alpha-synuclein proteins which forms clumps called Lewy bodies in our brains.

Dopamine is naturally produced when we laugh and generally feel happy; exercise releases endorphins, dopamine and endocannabinoids. It also reduces the alpha-synuclein build-up.

So be happy and exercise: come along and meet other people with YOPD and join in some of our activities. The Newbury Parkinson's branch is not just for the retired. We also have a few younger members who are working and have children still at school.
